Because they take the strain. Every time a frame is lifted, flexed or put away for winter, the load goes through the corners, so they are the part that cracks first while the rest of the frame is still sound.

No. The corners push into the ends of the frame profile. It is a job you can do on a kitchen table in a few minutes.
The set is sold as a set of four corners and two clips. If one corner has failed the others are usually the same age, so replacing all four keeps the frame square rather than leaving three tired corners in place.
They hold the screen against the window opening when the wind gets behind it. Without them a light frame can rattle or lift at one edge on a gusty day.
One set per frame. Count the screens you are repairing rather than the windows in the house, since a large opening is sometimes covered by one frame.

Yes. Buy the PVC frame length by the metre, cut it to your opening and join the four sides with a corner set.
Usually storage rather than use. A frame leaned against a wall or stacked under something heavy puts all the load on one corner, and PVC becomes more brittle in the cold.
Flat if you have the space, or upright with something supporting the whole side rather than resting on one corner. It costs nothing and it is the single thing that most extends a frame's life.
They clip to the frame rather than to the window itself, so there is nothing biting into the reveal or the glass.
The corners are handed to make a right angle, so if a joint will not close you almost certainly have one turned the wrong way. Try it dry before pushing anything home.
It will if the profile is straight. If the lengths themselves have bowed, new corners will not pull them back, and replacing the bowed length is the better fix.

No. This set is for the window screen frame range. The magnetic door screens are a different product and do not use a rigid corner.
You can, but a glued corner tends to fail again at the same point under the next load. At EUR 9 for a full set it is rarely worth the second attempt.
Hold the frame next to daylight rather than judging it under a bulb. Brown and black in particular are easy to confuse in artificial light.
They are made for the same PVC profile as the corners, so if the corners fit, the clips fit.

In a sheltered opening, often yes. On an exposed window the clips are what stops the frame drumming against the reveal.
